In Transit

Updated: Jul 15, 2023

"All my adult life I've been on the move. Whenever I spent some time in one place, I felt the urge to move on. In spring 2023 my girlfriend and I moved into a camper van to travel the world. So, the story goes on - and it grows with each mile I travel further.

You can say that I am constantly in transit."

Soon after I got into photography 2019 (when my girlfriend Barbara gifted me an analogue camera on my 28th birthday - I hadn't anything to do with photography before) I fell in love with street photography. The idea of capturing an unique moment - be it a smile, an expression on a face or an interaction between different people - within a fraction of a second, was deeply fascinating to me and made me go out on the streets almost every day during that time.

Although a lot of my photographs were taken on the streets of Trier, I used to travel a lot - either for the sake of my former job or on private occasions. I could never really stay in one place for a longer period without changing the scenery from time to time - always with me: my camera.

In that way a lot of photographs were taken in many different places: Paris, London, Rome, New York, Athens - you name it.

When I go out on the streets with my camera I never have a real concept in mind. I just look for scenes which touch me or awake my interest. As such I didn't really see a red thread in my work for a long time.

In spring 2023 my girlfriend and I moved into our camper van to travel the world. During the first three months of constantly being on the go I realized: this is the red thread I was always looking for! I can never rest, I need to be constantly moving. So, this how my story begins and how it goes on - and it grows with each mile I travel further.

You can say that I am constantly IN TRANSIT.
